Overview:
I'm an ambitious and highly self-motivated teacher who loves to share his passion for singing and music with his students. I hold a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from the Eastman School of Music, and a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance (Musical Theatre Concentration) with an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from New York University. In addition to being a teacher, I am also an actor and have performed with the College Light Opera Company, VHRP Live!, and the Ohio Light Opera.
EXPERIENCE
I have always had a passion for teaching! I come from a family of teachers, and I knew from a young age that I wanted to teach. My senior year of college, I took two semesters of vocal pedagogy and I was instantly hooked. I love the science behind how the voice works, and am fascinated with how that applies to each individual. This new-found passion led to me pursuing my Masters degree in not only performance, but vocal pedagogy as well. While studying at NYU, I had the wonderful opportunity to teach both private and group voice lessons as an Adjunct Faculty member. I have experience teaching all types of singers and all genres of music. I learned and grew so much in my two years at NYU, and I'm looking forward to sharing that knowledge with students of all ages!
METHODS USED
I have a tried and true set of vocal building exercises (also known as "warmups") that I use with all of my students. These exercises help to strengthen students middle voices, extend their ranges, increase their agility, and increase their stamina. I combine these exercises with carefully assigned repertoire to promote growth and functional freedom. I love to have my students sing in many different genres because our voices are muscles, and I believe that they should be cross-trained so one can be as versatile and flexible as possible.
LESSON STYLE
When I have had people observe the lessons I teach, I have been told that I have a calm, cool, and collected teaching style. I am always rooting for my students to succeed, and am always striving to create a safe and fun learning environment. The thing that I love most about teaching voice is that everyone's voice is beautifully unique. I enjoy guiding each singer on their journey of singing and seeing where their hard work takes them. I am always more than happy to help each of my students achieve their goals, whether that be singing opera, becoming a rock star, or belting a show tune!
