I am a young and engaging teacher. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Nyack College with a degree in Music Education. I am a scholarship winning pianist with experience both in the classical and contemporary realms. I am also an advanced violinist and have served as the concert master in both the Molloy College and Nyack College orchestras. I have performed in four countries and recently accompanied the Nyack College Chorale in Lincoln Center.
Music has always been a part of my life and I began teaching at the age of 16. I am a well rounded musician and hope to pass this on to you if you choose to study with me. I have high standards for my students and expect them to be invested in what they are doing, but am also patient and understanding and comfortable working with students of all ages and levels. If you choose to study with me I will focus on not just playing notes, but being a relevant and engaging artist!
I have several tools that I use to get students playing music. One of my favorite tools is the Music Flashcards made by Bastien. Rather than teaching notes using an acronym like "every good boy deserves fudge" to teach notes, I use landmarks which get students to see the relationship between notes and allow them to read music with fluidity and ease. I pair these flashcards with Music Tree book 1 and feel that they compliment each other very well.
One of my favorite things to see is the development of a student into a true musician. When something clicks for a student and they begin making connections and are able to make music their own, that is incredibly exciting to me! I believe that my teaching style produces musicianship which is rewarding and beneficial to every student. Learning a musical instrument teaches discipline, multitasking, and many other excellent traits which can be applied to other areas of life.
