I have experience teaching all ages and levels. I have taught since I was a teenager and have taken piano pedagogy classes at the Manhattan School of Music. I have also attended the World Piano Pedagogy Conference. I’m a member of the Music Teachers National Association and Piano Technicians Guild. I have years of performing and teaching. Many of my students have played recitals and have completed NYSSMA. I can travel to a student’s home if preferred, I also have my own studio in Bayville. I look forward to meeting you and transform your playing.
For younger students I like the Alfred’s method books . I also use the Piano Adventures books as well as Hal Leonard for adults. I like to combine what the student is looking for musically and build upon that while supplementing the method book. For younger students I tried to engage them by making the lesson fun. If an adult is interested in popular music I supplement the lesson with a method book that is geared toward popular music. I think it’s best that the student learns not only from the method book alone but to engage the student aurally as well so that have ear recognizes the difference and the student can make the change without being instructed to make the change.
I try to build upon what the student’s goal is while training them to practice consciously and with a purpose not just playing the music over and over and accomplishing nothing. I try to engage the student aurally and not only from the method book alone. This method encourages to make decisions on their own without being instructed to do so. Each lesson I like the student to bring a notebook to take notes. I also tailor the lesson to what the student is looking to do in the future. If they are looking for conservatory training in the future we will focus on building a sound foundation for the entrance auditions. If the student just wants to enjoy music we can focus on just on the joy of making music but still have a proper foundation
