ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BM, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Vocal PerformanceMinors in Choral Conducting and Music Education
Awards:

2007 Jacobs School of Music Faculty Award

Overview:
Originally from Kansas City, I studied vocal performance, choral conducting and music education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.  I have directed and music directed productions all over the United States, including the current Off-Broadway production of Honestly Abe.  I have performed a wide variety of leading roles in everything from opera and operetta, to musical comedy and straight drama. He has been a featured performer with such esteemed organizations as Music Theatre for Young People of Kansas City, The Kansas City Symphony, The Kansas City Lyric Opera, Indiana University Opera & Ballet Theatre, the 13th Street Repertory, La Muse Venale Acting Troupe, and the Bloomington Playwrights Project.  While at Indiana, he participated in a 4-month long Opera Workshop class led by Grammy-Award Winner Sylvia McNair.
EXPERIENCE
I've been teaching voice and piano for about 6 years. II have worked as the Youth Choir Director at churches in Indiana, Kansas, and New York.
METHODS USED
Every lesson begins with vocal warm ups and breathing exercises, the importance of which can't be understated. Just as athletes wouldn't take the field without stretching, singers should never sing without giving their voice time to warm up. Warming up also serves as an excellent way for Jon to gauge student progress and make sure they are vocally healthy. After warm-ups, we move on to song study. Students and I work together to pick out the best songs for their particular voice.  The ultimate goal is to get students singing healthily on a consistent basis. Once they're able to do that, the style of music, type of song, etc. is totally up to them!
LESSON STYLE
I like to maintain a nice, light-hearted environment during lessons. Students should always enjoy singing, afterall.  My promise to each student is twofold: to make you the very best singer you can be.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
