Hey there, music lovers! My name is Jordan and I am a professional musician, singer, and songwriter in the Upstate area. I have been playing guitar for 15 years and have been writing songs for 12 years. With the release of 2 original albums and opportunities to play throughout the Southeast and abroad, music has been my lifelong passion and is an experience I love to share with others. Although I was introduced to guitar via the electric, I fell in love with the acoustic and the acoustic guitar has become my specialty. While most always you will catch me fingerpicking or strumming by hand, every now and then I break out a pick and an electric for a jam session.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching young musicians ages 5 to 12. Working with children is a joy and I never cease to be amazed by my students' rapid progress. I've had time to discover and develop the ideal curriculum for a child's first guitar experience and am so proud of the positive impact I've made in my community. I started my own guitar journey at 10 years old and it changed my life. I wish I had begun sooner! The guitar is endlessly fun and my goal is to share my enthusiasm with young beginners - educating them with fun activities, expanding their musical opportunities, and encouraging the development of their talent. I will keep your young guitarist motivated and eager to learn more about their fantastic instrument!
The guitar is a wonderful instrument to start young (or any age rather!) as it enhances motor skills, decision making, creativity, self-expression, and confidence. The acoustic, in particular, is my area of expertise as I have found that it is the most portable and accessible guitar option for students of every age and interest. Travelling is another passion of mine and I have been able to safely take my acoustic abroad for performances with ease. Encouraging young musicians to go out into nature or take their guitar with them on family trips is an activity I emphasize in lessons, as it keeps music learning fresh and fun.
I have developed my own engaging and creative guitar curriculum for younger students that ensures rapid progress. My experience with children, along with my own 10-year-old-beginner past, has taught me many tips and tricks about fun and effective acoustic education. As a visual learner myself, I have broken down complex music theory processes into simple visual patterns that a child can memorize with ease. These music pictures deliver all the information a beginner needs without the unnecessary confusion and frustration typical of beginning music theory. Once the basic patterns are learned, we can build your student's knowledge without intimidation or judgment. I also teach young beginners to read sheet music, chord charts, tabs, and the Nashville Number System (used by successful bands across the nation for easy song transposition) so that they are able to find and to play whatever songs they like. As we progress through the program, I encourage students to write their own music as they practice and show them my personal songwriting formula used in all of my original material.
My top priority is inspiring young guitarists to develop a passion for music. As passion increases, skill increases. Both my personal experience and teaching experience agree that practice with passion is an exciting experiment rather than a chore. Practice is necessary to become proficient in any endeavor, especially music. For this reason, my teaching style is highly individualized to the student to ensure progress at his or her own pace while maintaining that feeling of 'first love' with all things guitar. If it isn't fun it isn't sustainable. I pride myself on providing fun, inspiring, and educational lessons to each young learner. There are 2 great feelings playing guitar that I want to share with each student: (1) mastering a song you love and sharing it with your family/friends and (2) creating a song of your own and having the confidence to express yourself to others. Celebrating young guitarists accomplishments is essential to their musical and personal growth. The curriculum I have developed incorporates both of these milestones and even more. By giving beginners the knowledge and freedom to master, create, and share, I lay the ultimate foundation for a lifetime love of music.
