I am a motivated musician with nearly 20 years of experience in playing, writing, learning, and teaching music. My musical journey began with metal, exploring various genres within it. In high school, I delved into Punk, Hardcore, and Emo bands. During my early twenties, I dedicated time to studying Classical guitar and Jazz, while also immersing myself in Indie Rock and Shoegaze. My passion for music extends across a wide spectrum, and I take pleasure in learning from diverse genres. Over the years, I've been a part of several bands, spanning from Metal to Pop Punk.
I have always found joy in teaching. For years, I've been sharing my knowledge with friends without charging. It all began by showing them riffs from our favorite bands and even some I had created. Gradually, I transitioned to teaching them broader musical concepts and guiding them in writing music across different genres. As word spread, my friends started recommending others to me, and I officially began teaching during my college years. I've had the opportunity to instruct musicians at every level, from beginners who were unfamiliar with holding a guitar to advanced players seeking guidance in music theory or reading sheet music.
For beginners, I typically focus on teaching straightforward open chords, along with scales and exercises to improve finger dexterity. Following that, I guide them in incorporating melodies or soloing over chords. We delve into strumming patterns and cover fundamental techniques for warming up. With intermediate players, my approach involves introducing chord inversions and delving into basic music theory. Topics include understanding how to stay in a key and identifying the diatonic chords within it. I enjoy teaching both the "rules" and the art of "breaking" them. For advanced players, my instruction typically revolves around conceptualizing how to capture the essence of a specific genre. I guide them in the nuances that make a genre sound distinct.
I prefer tailoring my teaching approach to suit the individual's interests. When I initially began taking lessons, my primary focus was on learning how to play Death Metal. However, my instructors were unable or uninterested in guiding me through that genre. Unfortunately, this led me to discontinue formal lessons for a while. It was only years later, through my own musical experiences, that I started recognizing the close relationships between different genres. My main objective is to ensure that students find enjoyment in playing, learning, or composing music. Whether you aim to learn your favorite song or delve into music theory, I'll do my best to ensure you leave each lesson feeling inspired!
