I am passionate about music and I play at least 7 instruments. I love alot of international music styles as well as American styles (soft rock, rock, hard rock, progressive metal, hip hop reggae, etc.). My music degree is from Auburn University Montgomery and I have done live performances within a band, ensemble, and on my own. I have had the opportunity to play with different musicians with various styles and I have added their techniques to my teaching when it comes to my students. I enjoy teaching music and learning music so even my students (young and old) have taught me in ways that have progressed my music methods.
I have been teaching since college when I was 22. I have trained multiple band-mates from scratch. I continue my training on all my instruments and I am considering becoming a music professor at a university eventually and possibly. I have a history with several students from ages 4-28. I have even taught students with learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, etc. In addition, I believe music is a great communicator for people who have a lot to express. I believe all my students are smart and rock in many ways, and I'm happy to help to prove it to them.
For my beginning students I like to start with multiple methods such as simple tabs to teach string use, what I like to call as power chord theory with simple power chord knowledge. I do this because you don't have to worry about major, minor, augmented, or diminished when power chords. I can go ahead start basic theory lessons on this. I also have another where I teach open chords and eventually all my beginning students will get all these lessons before I move on to scales and the 7 positions or as they say modes of each scale.
Later I will teach more advanced theory for intermediate students and start showing them how to put the knowledge together. For advanced students we will start transposing between different keys and scales and mixing scales together and eventually be able to circle through the circle of fifths the best we can. I also teach songs that the students want to learn and I teach how to read and write music.
Music is a beautiful thing to teach to anyone and it transcends differences of culture and language. My past experience learning from different teachers with international backgrounds has allowed me to expand my knowledge and love of music. I love to teach, and the best part of it is when the student starts getting better and grasping techniques and concepts with the smile on their faces that's the best part. Especially students that have difficulties expressing themselves in normal settings. I believe teaching music allows those students to feel apart of something.
