While I have worn a fair amount of hats throughout mylife: computer scientist, photographer, musician, practicing attorney - the desire to teach others, to pass on my knowledge and see others succeed as a result, has been a constant presence for me.
One of my very first paying jobs ever in my life, was that of an SAT tutor, which I started at the age of 19. From then until I started law school at age 21, tutoring high school age students preparing to take the SAT was a regular part of my life, and where I gained valuable experience in being a teacher and a mentor to high school age individuals. However, after 2 years of tutoring, I was accepted into law school in New York, which was outside the geographic scope of the tutoring company I worked for.
Around the same time as beginning my tenure as a tutor, I auditioned for my very first professional band (Vesper), and was selected, among 6 interested guitarists, to proceed as their newest member. Throughout the next 2 years, until moving to NY for law school, the majority of my extracirricular time was spent tutoring students, and practicing / playing shows with Vesper.
In 2006, after moving to NY to attend law school, I discovered Musika. I applied to become a guitar instructor, and given my background of working 1 on 1 with many high school students over the past few years, and my experience as a guitarist to that point, I was accepted as a new instructor. Over the next year or so, I taught several young aspiring guitarists - from the age of 17, all the way down to the age of 4 - and truly enjoyed seeing each one of my students progress noticeably, week after week, in their ability to play.
Since graduating law school, I have been focused on my career as an attorney, and for the past decade or so, worked as an in-house attorney at Google. After my two sons were born, though, the desire to once again be close to our family and friends in southern California eventially led me to say goodbye to Google, and move back - finally! - to the LA/Orange County area, after almost 20 years.
I am now refocused primarily on being a musician. I've joined a fantastic original rock band (TruNorth), and am ready to once again share my passion for guitar by way of teaching others who would love to either start playing, or take their playing to the next level. With any luck, I can put my attorney hat away for a nice long while, and have one of my true passions in life - music, and guitar - be the main driver of my success.
