Overview:
Hello everyone, my name is Josh. I have been playing guitar for 13+ years. I have a music degree with a focus on blues, jazz and classical guitar. I also play rock, folk, pop, and just about anything you want to learn. I sing and play, improvise, and write my own music. Music is my life and I love being able to share every bit of knowledge I have with my students. It is a blast to watch my students progress and get excited about guitar. As a player, I learned what to avoid and what to utilize in order to accelerate my playing as quickly as possible and you will save time and limit frustration with my methods. I will teach you how to practice, which is the single most important part of learning. Effective practice yields great results for everyone. Often teachers will only explain the "how"; I teach the "how" and the "why" so you will have ample knowledge to grow and explore on your own.I teach children and adults and build great rapport with my students. I was originally an engineering professional but quickly steered my focus to music education because it is my true passion. Being involved with music in any way is such a thrill and I bring that excitement into my lessons, keeping my students motivated to learn as much as possible about the guitar.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for 4+ years now and have students of all varying abilities and ages. I focus on each student's individual goals and know how to pinpoint what areas need work. My goal is to teach my students how to practice effectively so they know how to approach new ideas when they are on their own.
METHODS USED
I will teach you to play the songs/styles that you love. I provide my own transcription of each song and explain and demonstrate each element. Learn how to read music, create rhythms for strumming, build your chord knowledge, improvise, train your ear and understand song structures. We will coordinate a lesson plan that will fit your schedule and accelerate your learning.I also have a series of books for teaching my students how to read that are very effective and fun. I give my students what they want. I cater to each individual and am always prepared for your lesson. My plan of attack is to learn the guitar from every angle and allow all the information to fuse together for my students. I keep my lessons fun and upbeat, but with a focus. I ensure full comprehension of all subjects covered, and make sure that each student is challenged and learning constantly.In 3 months time, your hands will feel very comfortable with the instrument, you will use proper technique, be reading music on the guitar (if desired), transitioning between chords with ease, and learning a couple of your favorite tunes. Let's get started!
LESSON STYLE
I make certain that each concept is understood before proceeding and that they are applied to the guitar. I track each student's progress every week and maintain a manageable workload depending on the amount of practice time each student has. I thoroughly enjoy watching my students learn and gain a passion for music and guitar.
