Overview:
I'm a professional classical singer who has had success making my only career Music.
I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of performance. In 2014, I graduated from North Park University with a Masters in Music: Vocal Performance & Vocal Pedagogy. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I have had the opportunity to Conduct the World Vision Children's Choir in S. Korea, be a featured Tenor soloist in the summer music festival "Orvieto Musica" in Orvieto, Italy, and the leading Tenor in the Opera "La Belle Helene" the summer of 2014 in Paris, France.
I truly believe that we are never too advanced or too fresh to learn, which is why I continue to take lessons as well. My techniques are solid, and I am always encouraging others to keep up their practice!
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching a college level choir for 3 years, and have continued my teaching with intensive Vocal Pedagogy training during and after my graduate studies at North Park University. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy their performances. My students will be trained in proper classical technique while learning a mixture of genres. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job!
METHODS USED
For Vocalists, the very foundation of proper singing will be taught: Posture, Breath Management, Muscle/Core Control, and Vowel Placement. These are the basics of good singing, in any genre. I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
But don't worry! I wont get overtly technical. I manage to teach the basics without you trying to multitask 100 different muscle groups while singing. I want singing to be an enjoyable experience, not a chore!
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the students, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
I teach out of my studio in Rogers Park, but can locate to a studio downtown with enough notice and an increased fee for renting the space.
