Hello, My name is Joshua. I am musician in the Baltimore/Annapolis Area. I love playing live, writing and composing, and of course teaching music. I graduated from the University of the Arts in 2008 with a BA degree in Jazz Performance. I specialize in contemporary forms of music ranging from pop/rock to gospel and jazz. I have performed in various bands and projects over the past 10 years. I am currently a music director at two churches and frequently play all types of venues from weddings to night events.
I began teaching my senoir year of college. I have been working with students of all ages ranging from 5 to 70. I tend to specialize in the beginner and intermediate. I Believe a firm foundation mixed with exploration is the key to a succeful music experience.
For Piano I teach from the Faber & Faber series. I used Primer and level 1 one for children and a level 1 version for late teens and adults. For Guitar/Bass I use Hal Leonard Guitar Method Series. For all my students I determine what they are interested in learning and we focus on that music while still practicing the fundamentals.
I truly believe music should be a fun and rewarding experience. It brings me great joy seeing my students progress in their musical abilities. I encourage students to explore their talents and discover what it is they love about their instrument. If students wants to compose and write music I encourage and help them. If students have a recital or a performance coming up, we will take time to fully prepare for the gig, wether it is a talent show or competition. Most importanly is that students are loving the music they are making while progressing over the months or years.
