BM, Texas State University, Classical Guitar Performance
Marines most accomplished musician-2009 UIL solo and ensemble Level 1: 2008-2009
I am a dedicated and passionate Instructor who loves to help other find a passion for music because music, has changed my life. My passion for music started when I was 13 listening and learning rock songs on guitar. Then in Highschool I found my love for classical guitar. I had the opportunity to perform in UIL solo and ensemble and had a master class with the Sante fe Guitar Quartet. I am now a graduate from Texas state university with my bachelors in classical guitar performance. I have been playing and performing for about 15 years and want to share this passion with others.
I started teaching at the age of 17 sharing my knowledge with children of my coworkers before I had formal education. Since then, I have had the opportunity to be a guitar instructor at Camp Lonehollow and have had private students during my time as a guitar pedigodgy student. A strong understanding of the fretboard and consistent quality practice is essential for any aspiring musician. I encourage my students to enter competitions and find chances to perform on their own. I want to implement a set date for my students to have a recital where they each perform one or two pieces during there time studying with me. I am excited to share my knowledge of music arranging, composition, and performance with all levels of guitar enthusiasts.
The first lesson typically is to set expectations and evaluate the students level of guitar knowledge. For beginners, we start from the beginning utilizing Aaron Shearers method book. For the intermediate player, we find music that is appropriate for their level of playing while also focusing on reading music and music theory applied to the guitar. For advanced players, we begin by reviewing music theory applied to guitar and focus on music for their level of playing. advanced players will go through the same practices as a university student studying guitar performance. Advanced players will also be required to join an ensemble to implement playing with others and they will be given parts according to their level of reading and playing.
My hope is to encourage and inspire players of all ages to pursue music as a passion and find love for it. Each student is and individual and as an individual, there is no cookie cutter way to teach. Each student has their own goals and their own reasons for learning guitar. My desire is to teach them to the point where they are satisfied with their level of playing while encouraging them to expand their horizons of music. I will teach each student the style and music they want to learn while helping them understand the guitar.
