My teaching expierience dates back to my college days, I began teaching private lessons part time about 8 years ago in addition to that I also volunteer my time every summer teaching children at my church camp The Salvation Army Camp and Conference Center located in Bedford, IN. I have consistently been teaching students in my studio at my home church for the last 2 years. Encouraging daily practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points that I emphasize to students of any age. It allows the student to progress and grow and it also gives them the passion and discipline need for the instrument. I also want my students to have fun and I want them to learn what they wanna learn and play what they wanna play while also providing them with the necessary tools to get the most out of their instrument. I also encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals, or even sharing your talents on social media. as well as writing and creating their own material.

For beginning students I typically start them on just the snare drum by itself. The drum set has a lot of moving parts and I've noticed that kids get discouraged and sometimes quit when they don't pick things up as quickly as they would like too. Once they have an understanding of the fundamentals then we can continue moving forward in their musical development. I always try to find out what the student is interested in, and I guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons fun and engaging no matter what the ability level may be. I'm a patient teacher and I tell my students that its a marathon not a sprint. Do your best and always strive to be the best version of yourself.
