I’m Juan F. I’m a voice teacher from Buenos Aires, now living and working in the DMV area. I’ve been studying and performing music for over 20 years. I’m a guitarist and a singer and I specialize in a voice method that is called Functional Voice Method, also known as Rabine Method in honour of it’s creator Maestro Eugene Rabine. I always enjoyed singing, I loved to play my guitar and sing. At the beginning of my musical journey I considered myself as a guitarist that can also sing. But to be honest during those years I didn’t really like my voice. I didn’t have a very wide range, high notes were always difficult for me and I didn’t believe that the sound of my voice was actually good. I usually end up tired and exhausted. Just a couple of hours of rehearsal was enough for me. I tried to do some training on my own with a couple of exercises that are said to improve the voice but that never seemed to work well on me. At that point I started to look for a voice teacher. I went through different teachers, techniques and methods, and learned some good exercises. I felt that I was improving a little but was never fully satisfied. A couple of years later I heard about the Rabine Method or Functional Voice Method. For what I heard sounded interesting enough to give it a try. So I started to read about it and look for a teacher that specializes in this method. This was a game-changing for me and my voice. From that moment on I fell that my voice really "took off". I became very enthusiastic of this method and I’ll explain to you a little about this method in "My Methods"
My teaching experience began 16 years ago. I worked in many private schools and studios. I was able to learn how to work with groups, with childrens of different ages and with adults. I tought voice tecnique, classic guitar, electric guitar and music theory. I also guided music ensembles. 12 years ago I opened my own Voice Studio in Buenos Aires. I really enjoy helping students with their music challenges. For those who pursue a professional career and for those how want to sing just for fun.
Functional Voice Method, also known as Rabine Method is a voice pedagogy created by singer, chorus director and voice teacher Maestro Eugene Rabine. Voice health is essential and the cornestone of this pedagogy. Understanding our physiollogy and anatomy and how to reach a balance in wich the vocal cords can work with no extra stress or tension. Self-perception is the guide and nothing is more comfortating that getting in touch with our own physiology, rather than follow external rules or images of how our voices should work or sound. Aestethics or "beauty" of the voice is subjective. In this method we favor the voice health. The ability to sing without fatigue. The confidence that we can trust in our instrument. The result of this work is after all a "beautiful" sound. And it will sound beautiful for every listener. "The acoustical result of a healthy sound is a beautiful sound. And we will agree in any culture that it’s beautiful because it’s an instinct aesthetic." (Eugene Rabine) The method itself comprehends 4 parts: 1) a theory about the functional system (how the instrument works) 2) a theory about the sensomotorial system (how one person learns a sensomotorial activity) And based on those 2 theories: 3) a specific Pedagogy 4) a specific Didactic I don't want to get too "technical" in this section, you're free to ask me if you have further questions about these aspect. The most important part in my opinion is the focus on phisyollogy and Voice Health.
- As a foundation principle of the Functional Voice Method communication is essential. There should be a very open and honest dialog between teacher and student. You can, and I encourage my students to ask, propose and work together. - Because posture, movement and breathe have such a mutual influence; we usually need some work or excercise regarding the body (movements envolving legs, arms, walking, jumping and a large etcetera). - Having fun while training is extremely important to me. All learning came from a space of enthusiasm and joy. Especially in arts and music. - I prefer to work with the music you want to sing and improve but I can always suggest repertoire.
Very supportive and encouraging teacher! Juan is a very interesting person. He has been very helpful in finding my singing voice. Every lesson is unique. I definitely have seen progress in my voice!
Juan is an excellent instructor. Singing lessons are always fun. He always has good feedback and is very encouraging. I strongly recommend him.
Amazing!
I have been a student of Juan for five years. He is an excellent teacher, I took face-to-face and currently virtual classes. He provides a space where to learn, always listening to the needs that each one goes through in different stages. Supported by the rabine method, it guides you towards a better performance when singing, with clear guidelines that allow you to organize and optimize your voice.
Juan taught me breathing and muscle techniques and I immediately improved my tone and control. I am looking forward to learning new techniques.
Excellent teacher! He has all the patience in the world and helps you develop your own voice and security. It accompanies you at every step, you don't want to miss a class, they are dynamic, different and original. Guaranteed learning, super recommended! The best good vibes. :)
