Bachelor Degree: University of Central Florida
Hello, my name is Juan C. and I have been playing the cello for over a decade! My musical career has led me to perform on vast amounts of stages in addition to working alongside countless students to further their own musical journeys. For the past five years I have had the privilege of studying under Professor David Bjella at the University of Central Florida; my time at UCF has allowed me to find a true passion for teaching. Some highlights of my teaching career include working with A Gift for Music to give Title 1 schools access to the fine arts, being a cabin counselor and cello instructor for young musicians at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and providing private lessons at The Orlando School of Music. All these experiences created a burning desire for higher fine arts education, culminating in my part in the co-creation of the Central Florida Cello Association, an organization which provides the UCF cello studio with multiple masterclasses a year given by world class artists and acclaimed educators.
I have been teaching since my freshman year of college! My teaching career began with a program called "A Gift for Music" Which brought strings education to Title 1 schools. From there I have guided many young musicians through their journey across multiple instruments. Some of which have been offered music scholarships to four-year universities. My number one priority with all of my students is building a solid foundation of fundamentals from which they will be prepared to tackle some of the most difficult repertoire in their discipline
I Have developed a fundamentals packet for the stringed instruments (Violin, Viola, Cello) which can be utilized by beginners and advanced students alike. Suzuki is the primary method book I utilize as it attacks many of the difficulties beginners face head on in early editions and it offers a rather streamlined process to position work. The Suzuki books also come with piano accompaniment books to help prepare students for solo and even chamber playing as collaborating with other musicians is a vital step in their professional development.
Teaching music is much different than any other subject that is offered especially private lessons. My goal is to help every one of my students find passion in not only music but their lives! Every student gets their own goals and individualized lesson plans with a scope and sequence crafted specifically to help attack what they require the most instruction on. This way each student has realistic goals and milestones that pushes their abilities but is still achievable. Each student is also encouraged to participate in a studio recital where they will perform in a solo concert setting alongside other students!
