Music is embedded in my bloodline. My mother is a powerhouse singer and that is who I get it from. I grew up in church singing and playing the clarinet all throughout grade school. I went to Virginia State University and joined the Gospel Chorale and toured all over Europe! ” I also appeared on the hit television show “America’s Got Talent” with the Choir! Since graduating I released several projects and have performed all over the U.S! My recent single “I Wanna Feel'' landed on Sony Pictures Film “The Invitation." I have performed live on FOX 29 for the "Q Show" and have opened up for Kash Doll, Jagged Edge, Tony Terry, Avery Wilson and more. I had the pleasure to rock many stages such as the legendary SOB’s in NYC, VFLIES for SXSW and other stages all over New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Las Angelos, New Jersey and in several countries in Europe.
My experience with vocal coaching started when I was a young girl helping to teach my church's choir parts for songs we had to learn. Once I went to college I joined the Gospel Chorale at Virginia State University where I helped guide the alto section for a month long European Christmas tour. I had the pleasure of coaching and singing on tour twice while in college. I graduated and went into teaching my own lessons while also assistant teaching for choir at a middle school. I have also hosted my own songwriting events to help writers become better at their craft!
For beginner students who are children to adults, I like to start by finding out if they have any experience is in singing. I like to get to know what they like, if they have any goals, artists or songs that they really love and why. I love to connect the dots at any age because then I can create a custom plan and understand which practices to take. Once this is covered, I will see what they're range is on the piano. Our first lesson always consist of learning how to breathe for singing. For children we will start on scales that are fun and silly. For ages 10 and higher I normally teach with Jacob's Vocal Academy.
My approach to teaching is rooted in a genuine love for music and a deep desire to help others understand and grow in their singing ability. If my student is preparing for a performance I love to help them with stage presence as well. It makes me so happy when I see the progression in my students abilities and the boost in confidence they have by simply knowing they can do what they have been working so hard to achieve. I handle my students individually and provide tailored techniques for their skill set. When I see them smiling I know I am living in my purpose.
