American Musical and Dramatic Academy graduate Studied voice and acting privately through out my career
Awards:
CBS records recording artist
Overview:
I am a teacher who has studied with many professionals through out my career. I am a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. I was on the road for twenty five years in various musical theatre productions, nightclubs, cruise ships, corporate and industrial shows, dinner theatre, stock, and regional theatre. I have done, films, commercials, and television. My style of teaching combines everything I have learned and experienced from being in the business most of my adult life. I believe in having fun while learning.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience started years ago when I got off the road and people were asking me to teach them. Fellow actors and musicians were curious why I didn't lose my voice, and could stay healthy for the run of a show, or a five hour gig. I told them it is all in the technique . My vocalizes are the same for every one . It is like an athelete warming up for a game. I combine physical and vocal exercises . I like to find out what the student likes, and want their focus is. I have taught professional students, and ones who just want to learn something new.
METHODS USED
My methods are based on life experience from studying with different teachers through out my career and being an AMDA graduate. I am very old school, meaning I expect them to memorize lyrics and lines, and understand what they are saying and why. I approach teaching as a teacher who still performs, and learned by doing it. I like the student to be old enough to read. I also encourage to tape their lesson for home study. I teach using tracks, with a karaoke machine or phone. I am easy going, and like to have fun while we learn. They decide what they want to learn . and I suggest and fine tune.
LESSON STYLE
Many of my students were working professionals, so we would work on what they needed to learn whether it be a script or a song. Some had an audition coming up. so we focus on that. Non professional students will have goals as well We can put recital dates together, or a school program or show coming up. I have students who want to audition for Americas Got Talent or American Idol. I had a student that went to the sixth week on Idol. I encourage their parents to sit in from time to time, to see whats happening. They have to practice. The exercises are a must. Every one has their own reason for studying.
