My teaching experience starts my senior year of college. I taught students with supervision from my professor at the time. Currently I have taught students through the program at the String Academy of Wisconsin. The ages I have taught ranged from 4-16 years old. In my teaching, I promote good practice habits, a strong will to learn, and goals that every child should reach. My teaching is most useful for beginner students through and intermediate/advanced level. The style of teaching that I bring to the student is a mix between different teaching methods such as Suzuki, Paul Rolland, and Mimi Zweig. The main goal I strive to bring to my studio is to create an atmosphere where children and adults feel welcome, have creative opportunities, and can enjoy playing the violin.
The methods I use in my teaching are a mix between Suzuki, Paul Rolland, and Mimi Zweig. Within these methods the strongest characteristics can be found, aural skills, freedom of movement in playing, tension free playing, building a strong foundation, creating an atmosphere for mistakes to be encouraged, and enjoyment in performing. With these methods combined, for beginners it is REQUIRED for a parent to be present in lessons and to act as a teacher at home. As for intermediate to advanced players a parents is not required. These combined methods in my teaching produce strong players with ambition and musicality.
In my own teaching style I have found myself to be motivating and empathic. When these two qualities are combined I am able to encourage students to strive for their best practice and performance while also expecting the work that goes into the violin to be achieved. When a student brings a readiness to learn and the correct preparation to a lesson, I am driven to give my all into shaping these students to be strong players as well as a good students. However, when a student is not fulfilling the requirements of practicing and not bringing the level of achievement into the lesson, this can deter the progress of the student. In conclusion, I encourage students to achieve goals within themselves and their performing and to also produce students with eagerness and respect.
