Hello and Welcome! First of all, I want to congratulate you for pursuing a musical education for you or your loved one -- this is an amazingly fruitful experience and no matter which instructor you choose, it will be well worth it! My name is Julia, I am a passionate performer and instructor, I have played well over 500 shows around America as a singer and guitarist, and now I am a working producer, music teacher, performer and session musician. I am so excited to share my knowledge and guidance with you in my peaceful, quiet, clean home studio, where I have an array of instruments and recording equipment. Thank you so much, I look forward to working with you and nurturing your artistic growth!
My teaching experience began when I was 12 years old: I started my own company and taught 10 students weekly for two years, culminating with a recital at my house to which I invited their families for a celebration in their musical accomplishments. This early education as an instructor helped me to realize how truly natural it is for me to passionately share my knowledge and excitement about music, while tailoring my instruction to each students' needs! Since then, I have continued to teach music all across America on my travels; No matter where I go, I always find someone in need of musical knowledge, and I always feel honored to share fun and fruitful training sessions with budding artists!
For beginners on guitar and piano, I start by introducing a basic understanding of music theory, so the students are comfortable with the fundamental mappings of notes and intervals. From there, I teach chords, scales, rhythms and song composition. I work with my students based on their individual musical preferences and desires -- whether you want to learn how to play your favorite songs, how to write your own songs, or how to play lead lines and solos, I'm here to support and nurture your craft!
My approach to teaching comes from my absolute love and obsession with music -- nothing makes me happier than to see my students happy and growing as musicians, because I truly believe that more authentic musicians makes a better world. I understand that each student learns at his or her own pace, so I never push hard or over-challenge, but rather encourage their process by acknowledging accomplishments and constantly refreshing their inspiration and ensuring that they are having fun with the process!
