I am motivated to help beginners get started in learning guitar as music is a longtime hobby of mine since the age of 14, and now I'm 23. My mother is a singer with a great voice, and her mother was a vocalist as well who sang opera in Germany. So I inherited that gift, which I had to foster over the years. Anyone could sing as a hobby but I made it a point to sound as close to my favorite artists as possible, through trial and error. Developing my musical skills throughout the years I have participated in multiple talent shows, collaborated with other musicians in songwriting and fellowship, and continue to songwrite on my own.
I'm new to teaching guitar and voice, however, I'm not new to teaching as I have struggled to learn certain subjects in school such as mathematics, and I am aware of the hardships that can be associated with what I call the learning curve. Almost everything in life has the learning curve so when I teach I do it in such a way that is easily understandable; because I remember being in the same position as the person I am currently teaching, and I think I wish this person taught me how to do this in this way, in a more simplistic way. Therefore, I think how the learner thinks, and this is my teaching philosophy, not only with guitar but with every other aspect in life that requires learning.
As mentioned previously, my Philosophy is this: think like a learner so that learners are able to learn from someone who thinks like them. I like to start my lessons from the very beginning which is tuning the instrument, so that the instrument sounds good. To me music is about 10% technicality and 90% feeling. Because you can play through an entire piece without any emotion and it won't be enjoyable because it doesn't feel good. Because of this my lessons are practical and to the point to help you get started playing right away.
It is important for students to progress at their own pace. Every student is different and some will be willing to practice for hours every day to get to where they want to be, and others are more casual and may practice less than 20 minutes a day. The important thing to know is no matter what you are doing it is okay, as long as you are having fun or you're doing what you want, or what will make you happy. That being said, you will not progress unless you put the hours in - it is quite simple as that. But the more you practice the better you will become, remember it is give and take.
