I'm a very passionate and musically inclined person that loves teaching. I gratudated from Prairie View A&M University in 2015 with a B.A. Degree in Music. During my time there I was the Jazz Band Lead Trumpet, Marching Band Section Leader, and Brass Ensemble Principal Player. over the course of mymusical career I have been to Connecticut, Alabama, Georgia, California, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Florida and almost every city in Texas. My life goal is to give people the love of music I have.
From the first day in college i have been giving private lessons to other musicians in my department. I was noticed right away for my musical ability and people always wanted to study with me. Me being a section leader for the marching band gave me a chance to exercise my teaching skills dealing with more than 20 trumpet players at a time. I love teaching students that have the ambition and determination to make their dreams come true. Growing up poor all i had was my trumpet and i used it as a tool to succeed. When people hear me play they hear passion, and that is what i teach, the expressive element of the horn.
For beginning students i like to cover the fundamentals. It is important to get the students abilities and mind growing. Fundamentalsare the most important part of musical ability. For intermediate students I tend to introduce my methods of how I began my journey as a trumpet player with a program I call A.L.L.S.T.A.R. The objective is to create habits that will help trumpet players grow into well rounded players. With adults I like to understand what they want from their music and help in any way i can wether it be theory, ideas, repetoir. My goal is to improve the player as well as learn from them as well.
My teaching style is very modern. I like to add the use of electronics to aid in the devlopment of players such as recordings, tuners, video, and other musical gadgets. I find that with music technology growth is exponential. I highly encourage my students, and there is no better feeling than to see one's eyes light and get excited about playing trumpet.I could literally talk for hours about playing my trumpet. My main point of connecting with a student is finding something to always excite the student for learning.
