DEC Piano Performance. Received 2010 from Vanier College, Montreal, Canada
Overview:
I, Ana, was born in a small town on the border of Quebec, Canada and Vermont, USA. At age 4, my mother began teaching me how to play piano. Since then, I've always enjoyed music. It's been my creative outlet. Throughout high school, I participated in competitions, concerts and master classes. After high school, I completed a two-year program at Vanier College, Canada in Classical Piano Performance. I've been teaching young children, teens and adults for 5+ years. Last year I left 18 students and my piano studio in Canada and move to CT to be with my husband. Now I'm looking to share my love of music with those around me here. Music is a part of everyone! We're never too old or too unlearned in music to express ourselves in this manner! I look forward to helping you become a better musician!
EXPERIENCE
I've been teaching for over 5 years now and I love the challenge of tailoring each lesson to the students specific needs and goals. I began teaching a couple family friend at the end of high school and since then, my studio has developped to 15+ students, many of which just heard of me through word of mouth! My students are encouraged to push themselves, create and work towards realistic goals that they set for themselves. At the end of every semester, I usually organize a recital for students to show their progress to family and friends. If my student isn't enjoying piano and being challenged in the lesson, then I'm not properly doing my job! I'm always looking for new and fun ways to teach piano, theory, technique and all that goes with being a wonderful musician!
METHODS USED
For beginner students, I usually start with a curriculum such as James Bastien and as they learn the fundamentals, we begin learning more challenging classical pieces. For older beginners, I like to start with Faber Adventures because it moves along at a faster pace than James Bastien. Once the older students have grasped the basics, we leave behind all books and learn pieces of interest to them. For adults, we discuss what they goal is and every adult i've taught has started with a different book or set of pieces. Every student's lessons are tailored to their goals, ability and likes.
LESSON STYLE
I try to keep every lesson fun, engaging and pass along my passion for music to my students! Nothing is more rewarding that seeing the student go above and beyond simply because they fell in love with the instrument!
