A lifetime learner and teacher, I have performed and taught voice all over the world. A mother, I love working with children as well as instructing/inspiring adults in their musical journey in learning. I have been singing my entire life and teaching others my entire life. My first employment was as the children's choir teacher at age 16 for an Episcopal Church. Then in high school, I coached all of my fellow students on all of their performance materials before the high school audition season. Teaching voice lessons has been mine main venture professionally. I have learned so much from the best of the best (conductors, coaches, pianists, fellow singing colleagues) from around the world with opera companies, choral groups, symphonies, recording companies, etc. All of this experience with some of the most respected classical ventures throughout the world has only grown and enrichened my current and future offerings to my students. Knew I wanted to be a singer at the age of 5 years and have never looked back.
My experience is wide geographically and diverse amongst so many different musicians throughout the world. My goal in teaching my students is to solidify their technical/theoretical knowledge of how Western classical/musical theater music is structured and understanding the drive for the student's studying as well as goals, I can quickly help the student develop their skill level. Currently, I am finishing my doctorate at the University of California in Santa Barbara, CA in Opera/Vocal Arts (will be finished 2021). I am extremely confidant in my ability to teach any student interested in opera/classical song/folk music/piano/musical theater.
For beginning students who are children/teens, I have many music anthologies I have used throughout the many years with age appropriate repertoire. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. My current students (both live and remote)n participate in Zoom performance recitals - although this is optional, it is very important to codify and mark the growth achieved - it is rewarding to have a video recital to be proud of and share with family/friends.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Having taught students from 5-90 years young, I am empowered to share and encourage anyone who is interested in learning about classical music (voice) and how to empower themselves with the understanding of how the unamplified voice can help with every important social leadership role throughout their lives. This is paramount for self-esteem, speaking, performing, job interviews, etc.
