Hi y'all! I'm a saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer in the East Atlanta metro area. I love teaching and have maintained a private studio since 2018. My loves for performance and composition led me to get two Bachelors degrees in Saxophone Performance and Composition from the University of Georgia in 2023. I really enjoy large ensemble and chamber music, and I have lots of experience playing in chamber groups, musical theater pit orchestras, jazz and hip hop bands, and many other types of music. My saxophone quartet, Mixed Media, has won one of the most prestigious awards for chamber music in the country (Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition) and my compositions have been performed across the country and in short movies.
My musical career started as a singer growing up in Washington DC. I have been playing saxophone for almost 15 years and have been composing for 8. I have maintained a private studio for 6 years and have taught students from 8-18. I have lots of experience singing and playing in lots of different genres of music and have always maintained the importance of being able to play in multiple genres. My own compositions blend jazz, hip hop, and contemporary music together, and my students are enriched with the knowledge that I bring from all those genres. My speciality focus is definitely in small ensemble playing
No matter what, I try to foster personal artistry as a primary goal for my students. That means that they should leave my lessons with one step closer to playing the type of music they want, whether it's in a band class or on stage with a jazz group. I start by teaching the fundamentals and making sure that the student has basic competency in the instrument and in general music knowledge to begin creating music by themselves. I also stress the importance of audition preparation (scales, keys, general technique) as this aids the overall growth of the student. I expect that students are personally motivated and practicing, as artistic growth as both taught and found.
Once again, my overall goal is to develop a personal artistic voice for each student. My teaching style is flexible to style and type of music that the student wants to play, and I facilitate their growth in that specific genre of music. I also like to expose my students to types of music they would have never thought possible to play on their instruments. In culmination of all these efforts, I always try to run a recital where my students play whatever they want at the skill level they currently possess.
