I am an innovative strings teacher, who really believes in taking my students to their greatest potential! I studied at Illinois State University, and am currently a cellist in the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra. I also am a composer in the area, bringing high quality repertoire to schools in Central Illinois. Allowing students to see their potential, has been the greatest honor of all. I have created music programs from the ground up, and I have seen the effects that music has within its community. From my time in Mr. Music Man, to even creating an entire orchestra, to teaching so many wonderful students, I have seen so much joy from music.
I have been teaching for 4 years, both in Illinois State University, and within Mr. Musicman. With this, I have had ample experience both in large groups, and privately teaching. It has been, hands down, the greatest time of my life teaching students. I really believe that every single student I have, has the potential to thrive and succeed. So, my students actually grow at an accelerated rate. If you can show students that you believe in them, the sky is truly the limit for any student. I also hold at least one student recital every single year, so students can really showcase their great achievements. I can teach any student of any age as well.
I truly believe that sheet music, is one of the biggest hurdles of music education, and drives up the cost. Students with my studio, will not be required to buy any music (though they can if they want to!). Based on the fundamental teaching of Suzuki, Paul Roland, and the sensibilities of modern music, my pedagogy features composers from all eras. Even beginning strings will learn different styles very early in their pedagogy, and it will inherit the strengths of each particular instrument. For example, many pedagogues have based their books solely on violin pedagogy. I have meticulously crafted repertoire that fits each specific string instrument, to fully prepare them for their musical future.
Students are really the cornerstone of my teaching style. Many teachers use a "one size fits all" methodology to their students. By tailoring my teaching to my students specific talents, they will be very eager to learn! Students all have different learning styles, and different concepts they struggle with. I use students' learning styles to develop the skills to learn concepts. Learning each and individual technique does indeed work. However, teaching a student how to learn concepts allows for greater understanding, and it allows them to take ownership of their own playing. My goal is for students to have the knowledge to learn any piece of music, without any help at all. It is a difficult process, but an enormously gratifying one.
