I have been playing for 13 years and am extremely passionate about playing and teaching. I am currently the drum instructor at Northwest Christian Univeristy and perform in their Touring group.I spent some time in Nashville at the Contemporary Music Center Performing every week and even played on a small tour as their drummer. Performing is one of the greatest experiences I have ever had, and I want to pass on my passion and inspire those who love to play to practice everyday. I have my degree in music industry which focuses on Tech, Artistry, and Business in the industry. I have had many opportunites to perform, travel, and help other performers with recording.
I have been teaching lessons for 3 years and this year is my first as a college professor. All of my students are unique in how they learn and I love to use that to their advantage. Learning an instrument is no easy task and requires a lot of effort however is should be a fun process. Why learn and practice everyday on something youre not enjoying? Through my experience of performing and touring I learned a lot that never learned from my personal lessons as a student. I want to pass on the knowledge that I have gained and I strive to spark that passion that so many people have but dont know how to get it started.
For children I start with the very basics of rythym adn technique. If you learn these at a young age these things will stay forever. I encorporate fun easy songs to play along to. As the child progresses more advanced skills will be given. For college age to adults I focus on what the person is interested and how far they want to take it. If they want to get to a level thats capable of touring the curriculum gets much more intense. If the person wants to learn to play for a local band or a church or even at home I focus on how to imporve current skills as well as show new ideas to keep them thinking and expanding on material.
There is nothing more satisfying than seeing peoples passion come to life. I have each of my students practice daily and encourage them to listen to more and mroe music to hear what other drummers do. I set big goals with a step by step process on how to reach that goal. Learning what sparks that passion in a students playing helps me understand them and how to help them achieve said goal. Many opportunites are given to play to favorite songs learn new beats and how to apply them in a band setting or adding to a solo. My instruction is not based on a "set in stone curriculum" but instead in a moldable model to help give the student the success they seek.
