Overview:
I am a versatile musician who plays both historical and modern trumpet. My specialty is early music, particularly high-register music for Baroque trumpet. I perform with several ensembles across the country including Musica Angelica, Apollo’s Fire, the American Bach Soloists, Tempesta di Mare, Bach Collegium San Diego, Baroque Band, Madison Bach Musicians, Lyra Baroque Orchestra, Handel Choir of Baltimore, Magnolia Baroque Festival, the Washington Bach Consort, Chantry, Orchestra of the 17th Century, and the Washington Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble. I have also appeared as a soloist with the South Dakota Symphony, Las Vegas Sinfonietta, and Firelands Symphony and have performed in Canada, Mexico, Asia, and Europe.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching since 2006 while I was an undergraduate. I have taught students of varying ages from child to adult, and I feel comfortable working with students of varying abilities.
METHODS USED
I think an important aspect of learning any instrument (or any skill) is to have strong fundamentals. I work diligently to make sure that beginners do not unnecessarily develop bad habits and that such habits are corrected in non-beginners. When a student is not limited by technique, he or she is more easily able to communicate their musical ideas to an audience.
LESSON STYLE
I like to allow students the opportunity to express what their particular goals are, and I work to develop a program that works for him or her. Every student will not only have unique strengths and weaknesses, but will have a different way of learning material. I adjust to the individual needs of my students.
