I am a passionate musician who teaches general music by day and performs professionally by night. Sharing my love for music with others is my passion. I graduated in 2017 from the University of Missouri - Columbia with a degree in Interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in Music Education. I have been honored to grace many stages throughout my career including The Kansas City Music Hall and Kauffman Stadium for the Royals, just to name a couple. I enjoy being a free-lance artist and singing at various events around the city.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience is unique as my journey started when I was 13 years old. I was the Praise and Worship Leader at my church and was tasked with teaching the younger members of the praise team new songs to sing for the ministry every week. Throughout my years of high school, I was given more opportunities to nurture my gift of educating by leading musical theatre workshops to kids in the community. I was also able to cadet teach second grade music for my entire senior year. On top of the education classes that I was required to take in college, I began taking on a couple of voice students to jump start my career as a music teacher. I now teach fifth grade general music and I enjoy every second of it. I believe that learning should be fun and motivating in order to be successful and that is the biggest output that I would like for my voice students.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I like to start by assessing the students' skill by having them sing a piece of music of their choice. I am a strong believer in students taking charge of their learning, so I like to have my students choose a piece of music of their choice, and I will pick another piece of music that I believe suits their voice. Each lesson will start with breathing techniques and a vocal warm up. The body of the lesson will consist of the student learning their music while being coached on technique and style. Once a student masters a piece of music, they will then begin adding new music with more rigor to their repertoire.
LESSON STYLE
As a teacher, the biggest reward is hearing how students, who have never cared for music in the past, develop a new love for it after being in my class. My teaching style is to make learning fun for my students. It is also important to me that students set their own goals and take ownership of their learning. It is my job to guide them to those goals and to celebrate when those goals are accomplished. It is also important for me to know my students as a whole and find out what motivates them to do great! There is a bar and it's set high, I am going to make sure that they reach it.
