Overview:
Hello, dear musicians! If you are not looking for your typical violin lesson, you have come to the right place. I started playing violin in a Suzuki method program, which taught me the importance of training your ear. I honed in my classical skills, and thereon pursued the unconventional in violin genres my going to Berklee College of Music. It gave me possibility to expand my ear even more with free improvisation, jam band, jazz, rock, funk, blues, pop, Middle Eastern and Latin genres, on top of orchestral and quartet playing. I was given the opportunity to play in Boston Symphony Hall, and start my rock band The Womps. If you want to pursue the unconventional and the unusual, come see me!
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for over five years, taking on students as young as 5 and as young as 65. ;) I have taught both privately, in duos, and in larger groups. My teaching experience has been very multi-faceted. For one student, I'll be teaching a Bach Minuet, and for the next it could be a Lord of The Rings excerpt! I like to emphasize the importance of practice and playing your instrument on a regular basis to accelerate progress. I also like to emphasize the importance of technique in my lessons.
METHODS USED
Every time I teach a student, I learn something new about people and my instrument. I end up learning right along with them, and I love it! if you are starting from ground zero, I typically like to start with the Suzuki method books, and learning by ear. Learning good techniques and is of the utmost importance at this stage! Once you as a student are more comfortable with the violin, then I like to branch out and incorporate songs and techniques that you'd like to learn, which can be anything that is within your skill set. Improvisation also comes into play after further progress is made. Whether it's chopping, learning a rock song, or playing a violin concerto, it can be done!
LESSON STYLE
Any lessons that you may take with me are exclusively for you! I will help guide you to a place of effortless mastery, by encouraging you to learn some or most thing by ear, to improvise, to practice your exercises and your technique, and to practice, and to practice. But ultimately, it's what you put into your playing and how much devotion and determination you have to be a musician that will take you the farthest! As a teacher, I think it is best to go at your pace, while also setting goals to keep the progress and motivation at a steady flow. I will be both your coach and your cheerleader!
