Illinois State Unicersity - Double bachelors Music Therapy & Flute Performance
2012- RAMSI scholarship
I graduated Illinois State Univeristy with my double bachelors in Music Therapy & Flute Performance. I have been playing flute for 10+ years, and have taught students of all different ages & levels for about 2 years now. I am more than willing to travel to my students, or even have my students come to me! I offer lessons for 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes, and more if need be! I am very flexible. I take great pride in my students successions! I make sure to make every lesson with a student individualized! I only work on things with the student that they can achieve at and not anything that is too advanced for them.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I begin teaching private lessons & leading flute choirs. I have been consistently teaching students in my home & or their home’s for the last 6 years. I encourage regular practice as this tends to help the student progress in their instrument talent. I really enjoy challenging my students while having fun during their lessons, it makes my job much more enjoyable & it encourages them to love their instrument! I’m always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
For beginning students, I typically like to start with one of the Andersen etude books. This helps the student really get a grasp for the technicality and fundamentals of their instrument. This will also help them to progress in their musical playing abilities with their solo pieces. I like to start every lesson with scales or etudes and then work on their solo piece afterwards. I like to guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I will always get my students opinion on a piece that they would like to learn & determine if this is something that is appropriate for their current skill level.
I really enjoy seeing my students develop a passion and a love for the music and instrument they are learning! This is so beyond rewarding for a teacher. I believe it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I want the goals that I set out and the student sets out to be realistic, and we will work to achieve those goals they have set out for themselves. I always make sure to acknowledge each and every one of my student’s accomplishments, this only helps fuel a students desire to learn and continue to progress more. I take the time to learn what inspires each student, so each one of their lessons are individualized & tailored to them.
