I am a passionate and active musician and teacher in the city of Chicago. My main groups include Tge Chicago Cosmopolitan Orchestra (Principal 2nd, piccolo, and assistant Principal Flute) The Wabash Winds, and The Riojas Duo (Flute and Percussion.) I also actively do other chamber music, and work at Music and Arts. I am a Graduate of Chicago Conservatory of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, where I obtained my Master of Music in Flute Performance. I have played with notable musicians such as Rachel Barton Pine, and studies with names like Stefan Ragnar And Eugenia Moliner.
I have been teaching for about 8 years now. I am well skilled in classical, romantic, Latin, experimental, baroque, and modern music. I’ve performed across the globe, in places such as New York, Walt Disney World, Honolulu, Italy, and Spain. I have performed with many different groups over the years, including, but not limited to: the Chicago Cosmopolitan Orchestra, the Riojas Duo, Summer Music in Tuscany Chamber Players, and on some of the worlds most famous stages, the Schermerhorn Symphony center, the Chicago Symphony center, in the Auditorium Theater.
Methods heavily depend on student. Everyone learns differently. I typically provide anything you may need, or can point you to libraries/databases. I heavily focus on tone and fundamentals, so applying it to the music comes seamlessly. For tone, I like both Phillip Bernold books, on embouchure and sound. Sonorite by Moyse as well. Graf can be catered to beginner to advanced students Articulation I enjoy of course Taffanel and Gaubert for all ages, Reichert for more advanced students. I also suggest Moyse chromatica or 20 Daily exercises for intermediate to advanced. We will decide this TGE first lesson and develop over the course of the studies.
My teaching style as I have said is deeply rooted in fundamentals. Knowing and having an array of tone colors, articulations and dynamics will not only make your repertoire easier, but will allow it to flow more naturally, giving you more room for your creative side. Every student is different and will accelerate at their own pace, and I am willing to work with anyone who has a drive and passion for music! We will work together to find the right practice style, exercises, etudes, repertoire, and goals.
