Overview:
I am a passionate and active musician. I love playing and I love sharing my passion for music with as many people as I can. I am a graduate of South Plains College studying commercial music with vocal performance. I recently have graduated Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Human Sciences. I have been singing and playing professionally now for 12 years and have loved every minute of it. I've toured the country in an ensemble with school and have had several performances in the midst of famous musicians. I love what I do and I want to share it with the world.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching private lessons in high school. I would have middle schoolers meet me at the high school and teach from there. I fell in love with teaching at that point. I found that the feeling of seeing/hearing a student succeed at their instrument makes me incredibly happy!!! I have taught anywhere from classical/instrumental to country/hip hop. I also like to make sure my students are having fun. If there is no fun in our lesson, I fail as a teacher!!! I encourage my students to perform live and also with songwiriting. I'm always looking to bring on new students!!
METHODS USED
I create my own custom lesson plans upon each students needs/wants. After an assessment of skills I create a plan to help the student harness in on the things that need work and polish the skill sets that are already there. Usually, I pick a good series of lesson books that we will work through together. If it is an entirely new student I work at things one at a time to make sure we're getting in all the basics and fundamentals needed for the more advanced skills. This usually begins with teaching music fundamentals. I know that learning music for a young learner can be like learning a new language, so I make sure to stay with the learning pace and style of the student.
LESSON STYLE
It is very important to me that my students love coming back to me rather than dreading the next lesson. My mom used to always tell me about how her mom made her go to lessons and her teacher was horrible so she quit! I want to be very personable to my students and let them trust that I will do what I need to do in order for them to succeed. We will work at their pace and I will work with how they are as as student as well; I am very flexible. I set a goal for them each week. If the student completes the goal, I usually offer them an incentive! I want to acknowledge their accomplishments so they have a desire to learn more!
