Hello future students! I am a happy, caring, and kind teacher who balances these traits with a serious expectation for students to practice and be willing to learn new things. In 2000, I graduated from The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. Currently I am working on two different Masters Degrees-one in Music History and the other in Education. Teaching private music lessons along with teaching in the musical classroom for 14 years has encouraged me to experience students from all different age groups and all walks of life. I believe that is why I love teaching so much-I love to meet new people, enthusiastic about learning and then I love to adapt lessons to their interests and their skill sets. In my spare time I love to make my own line of jewelry and home decor crafts. Besides this, I absolutely love to read and write. Currently I am writing my first fantasy fiction novel.
As well as 14 years of classroom music education teaching spanning grades K-12 in choir, general music, and orchestra...I have over 18 years of experience in teaching private music lessons in piano, viola, and voice. It has been a wonderful experience getting to know students from all walks of life with unique interests as well as unique goals. From learning how to simply count and name notes to learning the hardest viola concerto, I am there every step of the way for my students. With experience as a conductor, a musical theater director, a general music teacher, a music competition judge, a professional accompanist, and an overall professional performer...I feel that I can bring an amazing assortment of teaching methods to students who all learn differently and at a different pace.
My methods depend on the student's age, what they may have already begun in lessons with another teacher, and I also take into consideration the assessment of their learning style-choosing a method that works best for their needs. Basically you could say that I have no 'one' method. I have as many methods as I have students because every single student deserves for me to take the time to get to know them and to find out what educational practices will fit best with their learning style and personality.
I have been called the female Jack Black by many of my former and current students. So I do believe you could say that I am fun, I make things comfortable and provide a great environment to learn, but then I can also truly be serious and strict when it comes to practicing and performing. Expectations: Practice DAILY. Be ready for each lesson. Be willing to communicate with me about things you do not understand. Be willing to learn new things, many, in one session. And finally-be ready to become an outstanding musician in my studio. I promise you this.
