Overview:
I am a hard, motivated and outgoing instructor. May 2018 I will be obtaining my degree in Music Media from Norfolk a state University. Currently I am 1st chair clarinet in the wind ensemble and also Tenor sax in jazz band. I was given the opportunity to play bass clarinet and tenor sax in the schools production of “The Color Purple” as well. Music is a way for someone to express themselves where words may not be possible. I am excited to be able to work with each and everyone of you and spread my love for music
EXPERIENCE
As stated before I will be graduating from Norfolk state in May 2018. Even though this will be my first instructor position, I have been the head section leader for the past few years. Here I was able to help teach and grow the students in my sections. While doing this I taught them how to expand their horizons from reading music more difficult to playing more ranges on their horn. Within my free time I love helping my friend learn the basics of piano and music theory. She is not a music major, but the love for Music is within her.
METHODS USED
For those who are beginning on their horns, I will be using the Essential Elements book. Within this books starts off with the basic whole notes and half notes than moves to quarter notes. Every other page adds a new note to their repertoire. For those who have been on their horns, I will be using the 2nd/3rd Essential Elements book. Those who have no trouble with those books, I will be introducing them to solo works and adding some theory in there for they can understand the basics of music and what comes with it.
LESSON STYLE
Everyone learns at their own pace. I want every student to make sure they are comftable with all information each week that is being introduced to them. Music should be fun and a way to express yourself. With that being said, every student has different methods that helps them learn material and I don’t want anyone to feel discouraged if they are not understanding at the same speeds as others they may know. Students will be proud of themselves for each accomplishment they achieve. They will definitely have a love for music after working with me.
