Bachelor Degree: Olivet Nazarene University
Hello, I am a full time district music teacher. I teach general music and choir during the week. I have been teaching for two years in my district. I have a bachelors degree in music education. I graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 2020. I have taken private voice, flute, and violin lessons at a college level. I have had many opportunities to play with a college ensemble on the flute and violin. I am also able to teach music theory if interested learning that as well. I hope you consider taking lessons from me in the future!
My love for teaching began in college. I was able to enter and observe a variety of music classrooms. I enjoy being able to help students achieve and seeing them create music. I have noticed that music is constantly evolving and we have to evolve with it. Therefore, I try to combine classical music with pop music when I teach. It is important to be introduced to a variety of compositions. If a student learns something new from each lesson, I am doing my job the right way. I encourage my students to involve themselves in community bands to further their talents.
For beginners I like to start off with how to put the flute together. It can be confusing at first, but it isn’t too terribly difficult. Next I like to move onto the student being able to produce a sound out of the instrument. Once we have moved on from making a sound, I will introduce notes. I can be flexible on what to teach based on where the students level is at. Eventually, I would like my students to be able to put on a recital for friends and family to attend to showcase what they have learned over the course of our lessons together.
I like to keep my teaching style very flexible. It is all based off of where the student is at in their progress. I work with my students to set goals so they feel apart of the learning process. I cultivate a warm and encouraging atmosphere. I have a progress tracker that is used to monitor where the student is at musically. Additionally I like to recognize the students accomplishments with rewards or praise the student. Learning a new instrument can be a challenge, but there is no other feeling better in the world than saying that you were able to learn a new instrument.
