I create a judgement free/ supportive environment in which to learn and grow. I have a BM in Vocal performance from New England Conservatory of Music. I also am a skilled pianist and piano teacher. I look forward working with you and traveling this journey of music with you! Katie
I have been a full time teacher for 5 years. I work with ages as young as 3 and as old as mid 60's. I enjoy the variety in ages as I believe my approach to teaching is one of building a strong musical foundation and I am skilled and flexible to teach these concepts to all ages. I am a singer first and a pianist second. Piano was my first instrument, and then I later went on to study voice at New England Conservatory of Music. Here is where I earned my BM in Vocal performance. I have performed with many groups throughout the New England area as a singer. I have worked with many different students from different musical backgrounds and enjoy this very much. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
For piano- I teach out of several method books- Faber, Bastein, John Thompson and Alfred's. I also implement Dozen a Day for piano technique and Hanon and scales. I use Czerny for the intermediate student. For voice- I work to build a solid understanding of breath, posture, vowel sounds and shapes, singing legato, etc. I believe a classical technique in both instruments is the best foundation for growth into any style. This technique will compliment- jazz, pop, rock, country, etc. For the child's (5-12 )voice lesson, I use much musical theatre and pop songs.
I strive to have each student grow their passion and love for music. To remain curious and fearless in trying new things. I enjoy working with students to set goals such as - performing in a recital, auditioning for a production or competition, for singing and playing music they never thought they would be able to. I create a friendly judgment free learning environment. I do expect a student to be committed to their lessons and practice, but build this with care and compassion. I enjoy teaching immensely.
Very patient with young students. She is able to gently guide students back to the task at hand when their attention wanders.
I absolutely love Katie. She is a great teacher and I feel very comfortable with her. She is encouraging and she also pushes to go further than think I can. The time flies by and she makes it very fun. I look forward to these lessons all week. I would highly recommended her.
Katie is a lovely person and a great voice teacher. She is patient, kind, and encouraging.
Katie, Has been a wonderful instructor. She understands my goals and works with me on a game plan. She has always been honest encouraging and flexible. Highly recommended.
Katie (Katherine) is a wonderful music teacher and coach. She establishes a wonderful rapport with her students, and grounds them in solid fundamentals of breathing, stance & posture, and alignment, even before getting into theory, diction and other aspects of singing. These building blocks allow for amazing growth as a singer and musician. My daughter has flourished as a singer with her, and I look forward to many more lessons to come.
She is absolutely wonderful and my son loves his voice lessons very much! Katie is patient, very kind and makes lessons a lot of fun. My son is always very happy after his lessons and looks forward to them weekly. Katie is especially talented at making a child feel at ease singing infront of her and singing in general. I couldn't wish for a better voice teacher for my son.
