I’m a passionate and driven performer, writer and teacher who loves working with students to bring their unique potential to fruition. In 2017, I graduated from Belmont University with a degree in Vocal Performance. My senior year at Belmont, I was selected as one of four finalists in Belmont’s Commercial Showcase. Performing all over the country have been the hilights of my career thus far. I have been honored to play in famed Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and as the guitarist-in-residence at the world-famous Grand Hotel, as well as with national touring acts Madame Gandhi and Thelma and the Sleaze.
I began teaching lessons in college. Most of my early students were elementary-school aged and novice. There, I learned that regular practice must be encouraged to allow interest to begin to pique and passion begin to form. I firmly believe that hard work and discipline go much further than talent alone. I also firmly believe in fun! My most deeply seeded goal is for my students to develop a life-long love and practice of music! I am always looking to bring in more students of all ages and skill levels!
Typically, I begin with regimented learning. For guitar students, I use Hal Leonard’s Guitar Method 1. For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. I offer studio-wide performance opportunities for new and experienced students to show off their skills! As they progress, I teach to their interests and needs. Some students may be in high school prepping for Solo and Ensemble, or All-State Chorus auditions, or even college auditions. Some may develop interest in specific genres. From there, my approach and curriculum becomes tailored to the student.
My teaching philosophy is that students blossom at their own pace. Some concepts might be more difficult for some to grasp than others. Students may excel in some areas and struggle in others. I teach sustainable and kind methods of practice and learning. I believe that a teacher’s true job is to teach a student how to practice. I encourage short and long term goal-setting. I believe that what keeps any musician coming back to the woodshed is enthusiasm. I encourage students to chase their musical interests relentlessly.
