Bachelor Degree: Barry University
I am an instructor that have great passion for teaching, and believes that everyone should have the chance to learn an instrument, no matter the age. I started playing the Violin in 2004, Viola in 2009 and Piano in 2011. I graduated with a Bachelor in Music Performance specializing in Violin in 2015 from Barry University in Miami Shores. During my time, I have performed and held performances with musicians from many different orchestras based in Atlanta and South Florida, including learning from members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and performances with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra.
My teaching experience goes back to my high school days, where we would volunteer to help tutor the local middle school orchestra members on music they were working on for performances. Many of my classmates would also come to me for help with practicing or if they had a music theory question. This continued in college, and before I knew I was working as a violin and piano teacher at a local music store. My students are encouraged to practice daily and are more than welcome to reach out to me if once I leave, they don't have a grasp on what was taught. I also encourage my students to participate in recitals as soloists and in small groups so they can understand the dynamics of performing in different ways.
I generally will start off students with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Once the fundamentals from those books have been understood, I will start the students on repertoire that is appropriate for their level. I generally will start off on Classical music, but if the student has a request I will help them work on that song unless I know that their skill level isn't at the point where they can perform that song. For adults, unless they specify that they want to only learn a specific song, I will also try to teach them the fundamentals of note reading and rhythm, and from there ask if there is a specific style that they want to learn and cater my lessons to their style of choice.
I love seeing my students get excited when they play a song perfectly for a performance, and I understand that there is a long road to get them to that point. I am a firm believer in using encouraging words over disciplinary actions when a student does something incorrectly. I have first hand seen the difference between the two and I have a history of my students always being excited to continue learning when they are encouraged. Music is an art that is supposed to inspire people, and as the teacher I believe that I should always inspire my students to do better, inspire them to get on stage and perform, and inspire them to let their creativity flow through music.
