BA, Azusa Pacific University, Music Education
I love music! I enjoy introducing the art of music to new and experienced musicians. I have grown up playing various instruments such as piano, cello, tuba, and guitar. I have played in ensembles, solo recitals, and various rock/pop bands. In 2009, I graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. I have experience in teaching acoustic and electric guitar, music theory, and performing in various pop/rock groups. After graduating college, I lived and performed in Los Angeles and worked with various studio musicians.
My teaching experience began right after I graduated from college in 2009. I have worked full-time as an elementary school music teacher where I focused on introducing music theory, music history, basic rhythms, and reading music. Soon after, I turned to private lessons where I primarily taught acoustic and electric guitar. I have primarily taught students beginning and intermediate guitar and can certainly help other experienced musicians grow in their musicianship. I have taught students from all age groups and am willing to help anyone achieve their goal!
For any student, I want to know what their goal is. I have been in many lessons where I was learning information that I never actually needed to know so I would like to teach my students whatever they need to grow as a better musician. For beginner students, I start with chords, chord structure, music theory, rhythm, etc. From there, I will expand their repertoire and introduce songs, improvisation, and sight reading/listening. But, all of my lessons are always centered around what the student's goal is and what we can both do to achieve that.
I like to enjoy music and my style is that every student would share that as well. I am understanding of all levels of musicianship and each student grows as a musician at their own pace. I want every student to feel comfortable and know that they are not alone in their journey of being a musician. I will not force feed my own preference on every student, but will cater to where each student is at. I will give each student goals to focus on and I understand that sometimes it takes time to reach those goals. Again, this is music and it must be enjoyable!
