A passionate, inspiring, and engaging guitar instructor, I'm a also certificated teacher (Licensure: Illinois Professional Educator License - PEL), trained in providing high-quality instruction to all learners. My love for music developed at the age of seven when I picked up the guitar for the first time. The passion that I had for music and, in particular the guitar, compelled me to learn as much as I could about the instrument from various instructors, fellow guitar players, and friends alike. In my late teens, 20's, and 30's, I played in numerous bands in and around the Los Angeles and Hollywood areas, garnering accolades as the guitarist for Immersion, one of Rhino Record's top 5 Los Angeles bands.
With nearly 25 years of music-related experience and more than 15 years as an instructor, I have taught a multitude of students, young and old, and within a broad age range and abilities. Moreover, I have worked with the United Way of Santa Barbara in the summer of 2014 as a guitar instructor and was instrumental in developing a guitar program with the City of Pismo Beach in 2013. While working in Pismo Beach, my dedication to the students, most of whom were young children, compelled me to reached out to music instrument vendors and successfully solicited for donations of instruments and equipment to the city’s music program.
Relocated to Chicago from Los Angles to make the Windy City my home, I’m also a state-credentialed (Illinois Professional Educator License) teacher with background music, education, and pedagogical thinking. I infuse the lessons I bring to my students with instructional methods that are interesting, engaging, and most of all, fun and personalized, tailored to your needs and interests. As a passionate musician, a dedicated and skilled guitar player, and as a formally trained educator, my mission is to help others not only learn the instrument but find the love, passion, and endless, immeasurable joy that the guitar provides.
I have in my repertoire numerous lessons that I provide for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students alike. For young children, I start with the fundamentals, ensuring that the child has grasped the concepts before moving on. For older children or adults, I first assess the student's musical interests (e.g., genres/styles, acoustic/electric guitar, style(s) of playing, etc..) and teach to their interest, beginning with the fundamentals, the foundation, and subsequently moving on to more complex concepts, all the while ensuring that the lessons are fun and engaging.
A certificated and trained educator, I infuse my guitar lessons with pedagogical elements to effectively help the learner achieve success. My passion for music runs deep, and it is my mission to help my students develop a similar passion for it. I teach to the students' interests, likes, and passion, continually providing encouragement in a calm and nurturing manner, and consistently acknowledge and celebrate each successful outcome and/or milestone. Finally, not only do I want to solely teach, I'm dedicated to inspiring students to learn, develop, and explore their love for music and the guitar. Most importantly, the lessons are FUN & ENJOYABLE.
