Overview:
Music has always been a passion for me. I'm motivated to work with students and show them how music can transform them as a person and musician. In 2016, I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelors in Instrumental Music Education and a Bachelors in Percussion Performance. Performing in different types of ensembles throughout the years has given me versatility as a precussionist in many different styles, such as marching band, classical, musical theatre, latin jazz and hip-hop. After graduating, I've became a producer/composer of music. I've produced and written drumline cadences and music in the genres of hip-hop, r&b and gospel so far.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience started while I was in college, as I began teaching drumline in 2011, and I have been consistently teaching a variety of drumlines and individual students ever since. I encourage students to practice on a consistent basis that way with each lesson the student is progressing. Education and feel are the two most important aspects of music I like to install in my students. As students will learn the classical aspects of reading music and getting a classical and modern approach to playing. I'm lookin for students of all ages to help enhance their passion for music.
METHODS USED
For beginning percussion students who are children, I typically start with Kennan Wylie's Simple Steps to Successful Beginning Percussion and Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals of playing and reading, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I like to find out what what the student is interested in learning, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons engaging and fun, no matter the ability.
LESSON STYLE
My only reward is seeing one of my students getting better, and developing a passion for music! I will work with each student at their own pace to ensure that they are able to reach realistic goals. I will encourage students to be problem solvers by LISTENING to my instruction, APPLYING what they have heard, and then LEARNING from what they've applied. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and I will do my best to figure out what inspires the student so that i can access my instructions successfully to their needs.
