I am a motivated performer and instructor that is passionate about showing musical knowledge with others. I have both a bachelors and a masters in music. I have performed with many bands throughout the world including KC and the Sunshine Band, Joe Sample, Rufus Reid, Arturo Sandavol, Jimmy Buffet, and more. I have over 15 years experience teaching all levels including colleges and high schools.
I began teaching privately in 1999 when i started music school at the university of alabama. I then moved to Miami in 2006 where i taught through the school of music. Once i graduated, i taught at many of the colleges in the area, Miami Dade University, Palm Beach Atlantic College, Palm Beach College, West Boca High School, Boca High School, and Forest Hill High School. In 2010 i moved to Houston Tx, where i taught at Robert E Lee High School. January 2015, i moved back to Alabama.
I listen to students play in order to assess their level. I then formulate a strategy for improvement. I log all lessons into a database so that students can reflect back and gauge progress. This approach ensures that both student and instructor are accountable with the tasks assigned.
I teach by example as i would not expect a student to be able to do something that i cannot do myself. I always try to work on things slightly out of the students grasp to keep them interested and engaged. We then periodically address the fundamentals of each task or excercise.
