So excited to be here and on this journey with you! I am a singer, violinist, pianist, and writer who is passionate about bringing vibrant music experiences. This passion has opened up doors for me to bring my talents to places such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and The Stephen Colbert Show. I have had the opportunity to back up artists such as Andra Day and H.E.R. I have 2 spaces that I teach in, depending on the needs. The first set up is in my living room with some studio equipment such as a TV and a computer with studio speakers. This would allow you to play music during instruction when needed. The garage setup is a full live setup with 2 PAs and a microphone. There is a light that changes colors to create ambience.
For the past 10 years, I have developed singers. As the musical director for my local church, I worked with singers who needed help with their skills in order to move from the choir to background singing. Currently, I work with singers in my band and vocal arrange for shows and tours. I actually found myself looking for ways to teach certain people that I would come across but I truly enjoy pulling out someone's potential. I have come across a wide lack of knowledge of proper techniques. Once people grasp that, it's liberating to watch them go to the next level.
For voice, I focus on proper understanding of the body and its role in singing. I combine this with a breakdown of individual skills followed by performance practice. The combination of the 2 allows there to be an understanding of the correct technique and an immediate opportunity for application. This is accompanied with homework in the form of exercises and books. For violin and piano, it is a similar process. I create and customize lesson plans for each of my students to that it is relevant to their goals and needs. I will focus on giving you a proper understanding of your instrument so that you can use it to its fullest potential!
I believe you already on your journey to who you want to be, so it is just a privilege to help and watch you get there. I am big on encouragement as well as introspection, so that when I'm not around, you know the questions to ask to work through any challenges you may be experience. Getting you out of your comfort zone is also a focus of mine. A lot of people are closer to their goals than they think, if they would just try. I provide that encouragement to assure that you can do it, and that part of the battle is just trying. My style may be best expressed as a 'Just Do It!' approach. Kick the fear out, and the more you do it, the easier and less thought consuming it becomes!
