My passion for music began in 1994 when my father bought me two Freddy Mercury CDs. Shortly after, i decided to buy a guitar. I started my classical guitar lessons with a well know classical guitar teacher at the time in my town. After receiving music awards in several national competitions as well as invitations to perform at the Fajr international festival of music, I decided to dedicate my life professionally to the classical guitar. So I decided to emigrate to Spain, a country with rich classical guitar tradition. In 2007 i entered the Oscar Espla conservatory in Alicante and I started my studies under the supervision of guitarist Ignacio Rodes, one of the best guitarists in the world. In 2012 I finished my undergraduate studies and two years later i received a master's in interpretation and research in classical guitar. During these years I worked as a guitar teacher at several music schools, teaching dozens of students of different ages. In fact some of them play at a very high level today. During my stay in Spain I participated in several courses and master classes by such masters as David Russell, Ricardo Gallen, Jose Miguel Moreno, Fernando Espi and thanks to these courses I became interested in the world of ancient music and I started researching on the origins of the guitar; instruments such Vihuela, Renaissance Lute, Baroque Guitar etc... My research resulted in the publication of 60 articles for a website on the internet. Currently I spend much of my time teaching because it is something I always enjoy doing in addition to recording and preparing my annual concerts.
One of the most popular instruments of our today musical world is guitar but it is not an easy instrument to play at the advance level. I actively taught classical guitar in some of the top music institutes in Spain from 2005 to 2014 up until relocating to California. I have learned through experience that many students have difficulty getting started with effective practicing. I have made this my essential goal to help them be more motivated towards this task. As a result of always providing a healthy teaching and learning environment in my classes, many students of mine are now pursuing their advance musical studies in different colleges around the world.
For beginning students, I typically start with some exercises for the left hand and right hand, easy arpegios, scales, melodies and chords. Once the student progresses to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For advanced students, I start with intermediate and advanced studies and pieces like 12 Studies of Fernando Sor, studies of Leo Brower, 12 studies of Villa Lobos or some famous spanish reprertoire for guitar such as Rodrigo, Turina, and Torroba.
Everyone, has a different level of musical appetite and talent. Therefore, one of the most important roles of a music instructor is to explore their student's learning abilities and guide them through their musical journey. In this journey the most important factor is to enjoy all the scenery of the road which leads to mastering of their musical instruments both in the class room and their practice time. As a guitar teacher, I have always tried to help my students achieve these important goals with detailed and careful planning.
