Overview:
I'm an ardent instructor and music lover that believes in the saying that music is the soundtrack of our lives. Through my studies, lessons, and performances, I have learned to appreciate the rich diversity found in music. A joy that I love sharing with all of my students. In 2016, I enjoyed participating in an international competition that served to further my experiences as a musician. All in all, I believe the study of music should always be an enjoyable experience no matter what your musical aspirations may be.
EXPERIENCE
Teaching piano has been a continual experience for me that initially began as a part time venture. For the last 10 years, I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with students of all ages. Each of them have their own individual style that I like to help them explore in order to encourage their expansion into the plethora of repertoire and genre's available. Whether it's classical or broadway, I work with all of my students to enhance their understanding of the world through musical expression!
METHODS USED
My teaching methods vary depending on the student's needs and musical knowledge. Normally starting with general repertoire before expanding into different genres in order to obtain a feel for each person's skill or level of understanding. If they are younger, I tend to lean towards the more conventional approach with the Bastien Piano Basics or Piano Adventures for them to grow in the fundamentals. I have found that the more interest they display for piano, the more excited they become about exploring different styles of music.
LESSON STYLE
It's most rewarding when my student's display those "ah ha!" moments during lessons. It shows me that they not only understand the material, but that they care about what it is they are learning by striving to improve. I also believe it's important for them to feel that what they are participating in is a worthwhile activity that is not only fun but rewarding to explore. Also making sure they recognize the importance of practice by pointing out how their improvements are the result of their hard work.
