Associate Degree: Santa Ana College
I was born into a musical family, so I naturally entered the world of music. I started studying piano taught by my father then I studied more at the conservatory in Saigon. Performing during 1985-1995. I graduated AA music degree from Santa Ana college. Remember when I was a child cycling to school, I would sometimes stop for a few seconds or minutes to listen to the piano coming from a nearby house. Whether it was just a few notes or a very skillful melody. I would listen to them with interest myself. When I become a piano teacher, I had the compassion and patience to teach my students. Listening and correcting techniques from the starting position to the correct use of their fingers then gradually becoming proficient. I would like to let my students ask more questions while I provide them with knowledge that will benefit them or choose the songs they want to learn. Of course, it all focuses on essential techniques and skills.
My teaching experience back in the day was when I started working as a music teaching assistant more than 20 years ago. I will pay attention to the kids who were not be in learning music. That's what I thought, and I know I'll have to slow down and find the way that influencing their study or if they just want to be more active instead of sitting around. It would be helpful if I suggested to parents encouraging their kid(s) to put themselves joining on recitals at least once a year to create excitement, confidence and competitiveness.
As a simple option for the young beginning students, I would choose some simple and fun step by step tutorials with fun musical accompaniment that attract them from learning like: My First Piano Adventure for 4-6 year old or Bastien Piano Basic, Alfred's Piano Library ....ect..in addition to finger exercises, basic theory, techniques and rhythms that I collect from many different arranged books by each level to get they ready for the first performance. For adults, I will guide them in choosing the type of music to play and that does not limit their level or ability as long as playing is fun and interesting.
When I were young, my father was a my great teacher, always encouraging and instilling in me the value of music as a spiritual value. That helps me develop both mentally and physically, so I also wish to impart my knowledge to students. Teaching music is an art of communication in which I hope to convey excitement and complete each task well. On stage, I evaluate each student individually and most of them try to perform well and after performing they always look towards me as if proud of having complete their duty with a happy smile. Well, that's my reward.
