I’m a passionate leader and teacher who loves working with students to see them grow and develop in their passion. I graduated from Guilford College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance and Education Studies this year 2022. I have been performing with school choirs since middle school and sang in both Guilford College choir and treble chamber choir called Lumina. In addition to that, I have had the opportunity to travel to many states in the US and sang in congregations. I am currently sharing my passion in music with students through teaching singing and keyboard.
My teaching experience goes back to while I’m in my college years, I began teaching private in my own home studio and go around teaching at students home for two years. I love to share what I receive, and to learn from the experience as I’m teaching to my students as well. So far in my teaching experience, I focus on building trust and consistency. I always encourage my students to practice consistently, and have fun making music because making music should be enjoyable, not stress. I also like encourage my students to go out and perform as much as they can and grab onto any performing opportunity because that’s we learn and build our confident as musician. I’m exciting and look forward to teach new students!
For my keyboard students, I like to start with like bit of music theory and learn to read musical notes and proceed to closing warm up exercise and solo repertoire according to their level and interests. For my voice students, I typically focus on their genre of music and teaching their goal in singing. Depending on their goal or focus, I will introduce vocal exercise and techniques although most techniques are good to use in any kind of singing. Then, we choose solo repertoires to work on together and apply their techniques in songs or style that they love.
My students passion is the most important thing to me, I like to help them grow in skills but also their passion. I consistently ask for feedback and work together to make a fun learning environment. I believe each students have their own gifts and pace in learning, so I encourage and motivate them through acknowledge of their accomplishments in lessons and keep stretching out their hidden gifts through the right exercise or techniques. Giving compliments but also challenges them to grow in their own pace to reach their full potential.
