Overview:
I am an active, professional flautist, having earned a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Flute Performance. I was lucky to have had a rich experience in my life, to have worked with and taught a diverse group of people all over the world. I have moved numerous times between different continents both as a flute teacher and performer. First, I taught and performed in Europe, where I come from, and later in Africa including Zambia and Uganda. Currently I live in Lutherville, Maryland, where I teach and perform as well. As a student I performed in all school recitals and participated in the former Yugoslavian national competitions where I won the second and third place. I have also been involved in many master classes with internationally renowned flute teachers and performers. Teaching is my passion and this is what I have done for more than 20 years with my friendly, approachable, and kind attitude. I work very hard, and I enjoy seeing the progress you achieve as we move on with classes. Until now i have raised many talents, that have finished their bachelor's and master's degrees and some of which are globally known musicians. As a flautist I have performed with many orchestras, chamber orchestras, and choirs and held solo recitals and fundraising concerts for local music schools. Recently I have recorded a piece written by American composer and guitarist Garth Baxter. Thank you for choosing me as your teacher. In a short period of time you will see the difference and will be very satisfied with the development in your skills and understanding. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and go beyond them.
EXPERIENCE
I first taught part-time Flute and Solfeggio classes at music schools while I was in collage. After I finished my Bachelor's in flute performance, I taught full-time at Lorec Antoni music school. During that time I was the principal flautist at the City Symphonic Orchestra - Modus, were I performed all around the region. I played as a member as well as a soloist. In 2003 my family and I moved to Africa, Zambia specifically, were I started my private lessons. I was very involved with the Lusaka music community, were I performed every month as a soloist as well as part of the chamber orchestra. Later on we moved to Uganda, were I continued my journey teaching and performing. In Kampala I started working part time as an assistant music teacher and flute teacher at the International School of Uganda. At the same time I started teaching flute at the Africa Institute of Music, were I was Head of the Woodwind Department. I played as principal flute at the Kampala Philharmonic Orchestra with local as well as well-known conductors from the UK. I also held fundraising concerts for a local music school. Currently, I teach and perform as a freelancer in the Baltimore and DC area. I teach at my studio, homes and online. I am a very active flautist as I perform with the Baltimore Flute Choir on a regular basis and with the Washington Flute Choir at the National Flute Convention.
METHODS USED
My flute lessons allow students to thrive in an enjoyable teaching environment that I always aim to create. Not only do students develop their skills though my professional advice as an experienced flute teacher but they are encouraged to show their creativity and own artistic character by choosing the music they love. For beginner students I work with the Rubank method book and songs that most students love to play but I am open to use other methods as well. I like using flashcards, so students can quickly develop their site-reading. I use different techniques that meet the individual capacity of the students and adults. For intermediate and advanced students I prefer scales, etudes (exercises), sonatas, concertos and solo pieces of their preference. I like to play duets with my students and that is usually their favorite part as we can combine talents to play something beautiful. I encourage and support my students to do more and excel in their performance as a solo performer, part of a band, in competitions, etc.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing makes me happier than being able to teach my students and help them learn or enhance their ability to perform flute and understand the music they are sharing with others. I enjoy helping my students achieve more and continuously inspire them to become better musicians. Through regular practice and mentorship, I teach them to became independent and confident performers. My goal has always been to be a facilitator of my students' journeys to success and hopefully to encourage them to fall in love with the flute just like I did at a very young age.
