Hi! I’m Kristen. I’m a mezzo soprano. I love performing and teaching others the art of performing. I am passionate about helping singers improve their voices and learn how to love them. I love to prepare them for whatever goals they may have, whether that be singing in a choir, being on Broadway, singing at Church, preparing for college auditions, or just singing in your living room. Music is my passion, and I am currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance as well as a Bachelor's in Sacred Music.
I began teaching voice lessons during my sophomore year of college. I have been consistently teaching students on Zoom, due to the pandemic, for the past 6 months. My goal as a teacher is to do more than teach you how to sing. My goal is to allow students to become problem solvers and independent learners, as they find their talented voices. I approach my lessons committed to spark their interest, imagination, and musical understanding. My joy comes from seeing my students’ ideas develop and being there to guide them!
For beginning students, I typically start with teaching basic healthy singing techniques, such as vocalizing and healthy posture while singing. This includes instruction of vocal and breathing mechanics. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire selection guidance, performance coaching, and song interpretation and stylistic traits of a variety of genres. Outside of lessons I typically do ask that you practice a minimum of 5 times per week for 15-20 minutes using practice exercises that we learn in lessons so that you will continue to improve vocal technique.
Nothing is more rewarding for me than seeing my students develop a passion for music. I expect my students to have a willingness to learn and an open mind and heart for trying new things, and experimenting with and discovering new sounds. MOST OF ALL! Have fun with this! Voice lessons can be thrilling. I encourage setting realistic goals for my students during lessons and outside of lessons. Music is meant to be fun, so I incorporate fun games and interesting challenges into each of my lessons, while working on music that you love. Acknowledging accomplishments allows for students to desire progress and continuation of lessons. My voice teachers have greatly impacted my life and my goal is to inspire my students the same way as I have been.
Kristen is a great voice teacher. She is knowledgeable and loves what she does. She makes every lesson fun, yet I have learned so much from her. I am preparing for college auditions and she has made a stressful time so much easier to handle. I would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for voice lessons!
