Hi There!
I am a 2007 graduate of New School University's Jazz and Contemporary Music program with a BFA in Jazz Vocal Performance. I am also a professionally-trained pianist. I am trained in both classical and jazz vocal techniques and would also be happy to instruct students in general performance/presentation skills.
Additionally, I have lots of experience with in-studio recording and would also be able to prepare students for demo recording or other studio projects. I have a microphone and amplification system and would be able to teach students to sing with a microphone for live performances.
I have been studying classical piano for almost 20 years. I have also played jazz piano for over ten years. Additionally, I have been playing flute for 12 years.
I am currently accepting beginner to intermediate adult piano students. I am currently accepting new adult students in all vocal styles.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching piano and voice students for the past 7 years and have really come to enjoy the experience more and more. Encouring regular practice is definitely key, as well as giving the students a chance to work on pieces they are interested in. This tends to, in my experience, make them even more interested and motivated to practice and hone their craft. I am looking forward to bringing on new students! I can work either from my studio or online. Contact me for more information! Looking forward to hearing from you.
METHODS USED
I was fortunate to study under 2 particularily amazing teachers who offered me the best of both worlds. One was a classical vocal and piano and instructor, the other special in pop and more contemporary piano and voice. These 2 styles combined is how I teach my voice students. The combination of classical vocal technique fused with more contemporary stylings really brings any vocalist to amazing new heights and makes you a force to be reckoned with! It gives you better vocal control, larger ranges, and overall finesse. Through both my teachers I also learned a lot about different techniques on piano. For most piano students I start them off with 'An All In One Beginner Piano Course' with Andrew Fling. This introduces the piano in such an interesting way and has students advancing in only a few short lessons. I also introduce scale exercises for both piano and vocal students, which strengthens their mastery of the instrument and introduces discipline and drive.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style focuses on what most interests the student and draws them to the particular instrument. We explore different song styles and different exercises that speak to each individual student. I also believe in regularly providing constructive criticism and encouragement for each student's accomplishments. The more you inspire your student, the more driven they become. I encourage students to pick their favorites styles and songs to work on and we then take it from there and provide inspiration and a bit of fun!
